About Our Home

Within Melbourne House Care Home we strive to ensure that the service users, physical, mental and emotional are met through our their stay, whether it being respite or permanent. We have a strong link with the community practitioners such as District Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Optometrists, Dentist, Hairdresser, entertainers and church representatives ensuring that we provide a holistic approach to serve users individual needs. In line with the social care well being act 2014. Our aim within Melbourne House is to ensure that we have a safe and secure environment for the Service User to live, we work in line with the Health and safety legislations such as fire safety standards, medication act, Legionella etc. All staff employed within Melbourne House attend mandatory Adult safeguarding training and are fully aware of the procedures in dealing with safeguarding concerns such as SOVA. The registered Manager within Melbourne House Care Home is a registered nurse and works in line with the NMC (2014) Guidelines and the Social care and well being act (2014).

What We Offer
Melbourne House Care Home offers the very best senior living in Carmarthenshire. All of our living options are customizable, and we provide a full range of services to accommodate everyone. Qualified care staff who are QCF level 2 and above are available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week to attend to all of our service users’ personal and healthcare needs. We understand that additional assistance may be required, and that’s ok - it’s the reason we’re here.
24/7 Emergency Care
When every day activities become too difficult to manage by ourselves, we often need our family and loved ones to chip in. Melbourne House Care Home provides the support required to carry on with dignity, with the same love and care a family member would provide. This support includes 24/7 Emergency Care services, that can be arranged by the local authority.

Permanent Residential or EMI (Dementia) care
We at Melbourne House Care Home specialise in the care of Dementia, we aim to reduce the effects and symptoms of dementia, all whilst offering reassurance to service user and families. Caring for family member/friend with dementia can be challenging and stressful. The staff within the home have all completed the appropriate dementia training.

Defibrillator
This year we have donated a Defibrillator to the village of Foelgastell. Here is a picture of staff and manager with the defibrillator before it was put in use.
Donation toward "Angor"
Angor, Is a new initiative to support local people in Carmarthenshire diagnosed with Cancer or life-limiting illness.
'The concept for Angor started over 15 years ago when we noticed that there was a clear need for an updated wellness approach to ongoing care. Current models of cancer care follow-up cannot hope to meet all needs, and this is where Angor is aiming to help fill this void'
On 28 April 2022 15 bikers will take the challenge of cycling a journey of approximately 320 miles through Wales and Ireland before finishing the ride on 1 May 2022 at a location very close to Lyn's heart which is Llwyngwair Caravan Park, Newport, Pembrokeshire. There will be a celebration on 1 May 2022 at Llwyngwair Manor with entertainment, auction, food and a few drinks! Please kindly could you sponser this venture to ensure that we can provide this service in Carmarthenshire.

Maggie Therapy dog and Gold fish

Our family fish help keep the service users relaxed. Many service users enjoy watching them swim and others enjoy feeding them.
Maggie is a trained Therapy Dog who attends Melbourne House regular and also sister home Llys Fechan.

Melbourne House Care Home is a family run business with 23 beds.
As a senior care worker, you will work with the residents closely on a daily basis, assisting them to live their lives to the full. You will assist them with all of their needs (including personal care) according to their wishes. Becoming a friend and having fun with them is one of the most important parts of the role.
Your brakes will be paid!!
Duties will include:
Ensuring health and wellbeing of residents.
Providing personal care and emotional support.
Participating in stimulating activities.
Involving residents in a person centred approach.

A background of working in care is desired, with experience working as a senior carer .

What is included?
For many people, moving to a care home is a big decision and it can be difficult to know where to start. Care home fees are based on a range of factors, including specific care needs, which can change over time.
Living at Melbourne House care home you can be confident that a single fee covers the cost of your personally tailored 24 hour care and support, utility bills and meals, as well as a fantastic range of daily activities. In an Melbourne House care home our weekly charge includes:
- cost of personal care
- accommodation
- utilities e.g. heating and light
- all resident catering, meals, snacks and drinks
- laundry undertaken on the premises
- television licence, including for person use
- housekeeping services.
The following extra items and services are not covered by the weekly fees, however we can arrange for them to be provided (at an additional cost):
- professional hairdressing
- personal copies of newspapers or magazines
- personal purchases such as stationery, confectionery, toiletries etc.
- clothing, shoes and slippers
- specialist dry cleaning
- private telephone line rental and calls and cable connections.
In the absence of free provision by the NHS, we can also arrange for the following healthcare services to be provided, these will be charged in addition to the weekly fees:
- chiropody
- optometry
- dentistry
- physiotherapy
- other privately arranged healthcare

FAQ
Complaint procedure
Complaints, Melbourne House Care Home has a robust policy on Safeguarding, always ensuring that the safety of the service users is paramount. We follow the complaints policy and we aim to always provide a safe and secure environment to protect the service users legal rights and protect them from harm. Service users or their representatives should in the first instance take the complaints to the Manager Mrs Thomas. The manager should investigate the complaint and get back to the service user within a set time frame, maximum time of 14 days. If the complaint is not resolved by the manager, it should be referred to the Directors Mr and Mrs James. If still not resolved, the complaint should then be referred to Melbourne House Care Home inspector,
Is there a waitlist to get in?
If the care home has 23 service users , then the manage will have a waiting list file, beds can not be book in months in advanced.
Do you offer Palliative care?
Melbourne House Care home have a very good professional relationship with the local District Nurse Team and also the General Practitioner. This enables us to accept palliative patients.
